Soybean was introduced into the United States in the early 1800s from the orient. It was known as the miracle crop as it provided food for the people, was used as animal feed and in non-food products like soap, body lotions, and our range of candles. Today the USA is the largest producer of soybeans in the world, producing 2 billion bushels a year!
In 1991, while looking for a cheaper alternative to beeswax, Michael Richards developed soy wax. He realized there was a growing demand for natural wax candles. He got down to testing different natural plant waxes and vegetable oils that could be cost-competitive with petroleum wax. Through thousands of hours of experimenting, eventually by 1996, he created the low-melt soy wax for containers and the high-melt soy wax for freestanding pillars.
Reported in the USA Today dated 8/20/2002, stars like Mandy Moore, Allison Janney, Britney Spears, Jessica Elba, and Tiffani Thiessen have started using soy wax candles because they burn clean and last much longer. It is also reported that Natalie Cole cleaned a soy candle store out of its lavender patchouli-scented ones, and Alicia Silverstone had not burned a candle in 6 years until she discovered soybean wax candles.
Well, you do have a very wide choice of candles today but do make that healthier choice - use Soy Wax Candles!
