Paraffin is the most common and least expensive wax used in more than 95% of candle making done today. Paraffin is the leftover by-product from the petroleum refining process. This petroleum by-product can release the same harmful carcinogens into the atmosphere as your car produces when gasoline is burned.
When a paraffin candle is burned, it produces toxic black, sticky petrol-carbon soot, which can get all over your furniture and walls and ruin your home. This soot may even get into your lungs and therefore be hazardous to your health.
Candles made from soy based vegetable wax produce NO petrol-carbon soot and can burn up to twice as long as a candle made from paraffin.
Paraffin candles have also been documented to be harmful to the nervous system, heart and circulatory system, particularly in children and the elderly. This is not only a health problem, but also a moral problem. Many people are demanding a safer alternative.
